For foreign citizens planning to receive higher education in Russian universities, there is a preparatory course. The annual programme of the course includes an intensive course in Russian as a foreign language and a number of disciplines taught in Russian and cultural events aimed at promoting adaptation in the new language and social environment, preparing for admission and training at a higher educational institution according to Russian standards.
Foreign citizens who have passed the competition for education within the quota for education of foreign citizens and stateless persons established by the Government of the Russian Federation, are given the opportunity to study free of charge at the preparatory course. For this purpose, when applying, it is necessary to note that the applicant needs a Preparatory course (Preparatory department).
The course runs from 1 September to 30 June. Classes are 20 academic hours per week and are held in groups of up to 10 people. The cost is 12000 roubles per month.

In order to study on a full-time basis, citizens of visa countries need an ordinary study visa.
In case of a positive decision to enrol a foreign citizen, the university sends the documents to the Department of Internal Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for approval and issuance of an invitation for a visa citizen.
The university issues an electronic invitation. The whole procedure takes from 30 to 60 working days.
